Organic Moment

A Heritage of Organic Living

Heather F from NY

Growing up my family was pretty green, before it trended or became hip. I’m thankful for such a family now but when I think back to my childhood trying to explain to friends why my parents had virtually no paper goods, even tissues, in the house. I remember cringing at my poor mother each and every time she used her hanky or insisted on bring her plastic bags to the store to reuse. My grandparents always practiced organic gardening and made our time in the garden special and fun. There was always a compost bowl on the counter and the highlight of my day was going out to the apple and pear orchard that lined the back of their property. Of course now I am thankful for the habits that my family taught me and smile with fondness thinking of my mother, her hanky, and her bags as I do the same practices in my daily life.
